First patent on a desk

The history of furniture is as old as human civilization. The clever inventor John Loughlin marked his name in history by patenting the school desk. His company Sidney School Furniture Company, founded in 1881, introduced the design with the name “fashion desk.” John’s invention took the company’s profit off the charts, and he constructed Bonny Connellan Castle on Walnut Avenue with his fortune. Today some of the desks made by Sidney School Furniture are owned by collectors as antiques.
